Preliminary Report on Physical Examination of Labourers and Their Working Conditions in Korea

Abstract

|
This survey is aimed at conductiong, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Affairs, a methodical and systematic medical examinations of laborers now in service with various plants. According to article 71, Labor Stand and Law of the Republic of Korea, physical examination must be conducted at least once a year in every work place.
We believe this survey designed to obtain true pictures of workers´ health status and, by doing so, eliminate various elements detrimental to workers´ health will serve the purpose of improving conditions closely realted to workers´ health and productivity.
This nation-wide survey, which is cover approximately 2,300 plants employing a total of about 250,000 laborers, was begun on April 8,1963, and will be continued untill the end of November, 1963 under the responsibility of labor offcials of each province and city, with full cooperation of the Catholic Institute of Industrial Medicine and the Korean Tuberculosis Association. This preliminary report contains the results of that part of our survey which was completed in April, 1963, covering 71 work places with a total of 10,452 workers, of which 7,815 workers were examined.
